Music

The Grammys are on February 13th.  I looked up the nominees and being the old bag, country satellite radio addict that I am, I have never heard of some of the songs and don’t even recognize some of the artists.  Maybe you are in the same out of touch boat as me but would like to hop on board the party train — I may still have enough young in me for one or two stops.

Here are the Nominees for Record of the Year:  Let me know if you have a favorite.

Nothin’ on You – B.o.B featuring Bruno Mars

Love the Way You Lie – Eminem featuring Rihanna

F*** – Cee Lo Green (nice title by the way)

Empire State of Mind – Jay-Z & Alicia Keys

Need You Now – Lady Antebellum

Music has always been a part of my life and my Christmas memories are filled with both the classics by Bing Crosby and Elvis, and the newer but just as beautiful songs by more contemporary artists.  We had a record player in our living room and a stack of Christmas albums which my parents added to each year.  When my sisters and I walked in the door from college for our December break, fat and hungover, my parents would cue up our favorite song and have it spinning when we walked in.  This always took the edge off of a month with a curfew and no under age drinking.  I have an iPod stacked with Christmas music and from the day after Thanksgiving to the New Year, it is playing.  I’m a cornball.

Here are five songs that you may not have heard but should listen to, even if you don’t celebrate Christmas.

1.  Another Year Has Gone By – Celine Dion

2. We Need a Little Christmas – Johnny Mathis

3.  I Want an Alien for Christmas – Fountains of Wayne (my kids LOVE this one)

4. Angels Among Us – Alabama

5. O Holy Night – Tevin Campbell (I know you’ve heard the song but his version is my all time favorite.  He was about 14 when he recorded it.)

If you have any favorites, please share them with me.  You can only Rock around the Christmas tree so many times before you fall down.
